Hanna Avenue serves as an important east-west link along the south side of Indianapolis. Lochmueller Group provided construction inspection for upgrades along a 1.4-mile-long section that included an at-grade railroad crossing and asphalt overlay.
The western segment split the University of Indianapolis campus and consisted of pavement replacement with curbs, storm sewer, sidewalks and pedestrian walkways; a “boulevard-type” median; and University-funded streetscape improvements including planters, street lighting, and landscaping. This made it necessary to not only maintain a steady workflow, but also ensure pedestrian safety. The eastern segment consisted of reconstructing pavement with new curbs, sidewalks, reconstructing a retaining wall, and installing pedestrian islands near a park. This segment also included a septic tank elimination project that connected approximately six properties to city sanitary sewers.
