Traffic Study for New High School
Evansville Vanderburgh School Corporation (EVSC) purchased land on US 41 to construct a new high school for approximately 2,000 students and 180 staff and a new middle school for 1,000 students and 90 staff. Lochmueller Group (Lochgroup) prepared a Transportation Impact Study to analyze the impacts of vehicles, pedestrians, bicyclists, and buses on US 41 and on nearby local roads.
The study involved analyses of intersection capacity, queuing, sight distance, traffic signal timing, construction phasing, future volume forecasting, intersection design, and impact mitigation. Trip generation was estimated using the ITE Trip Generation report.
The study resulted in a series of recommendations that identified transportation improvements for EVSC, the Indiana Department of Transportation, and Vanderburgh County, such as added turn lanes on local roads, median closures on US 41, minor widening of existing local roads, and changes in the speed limits.
