Lochmueller Group is excited to announce the formation of a new Traffic Technology division within its existing Traffic Engineering & Planning team. Led by new hire Rich Schmidt, PE, PTOE, the division will be dedicated to enhancing the safety and efficiency of our roadways through the power of technology. In addition to the design and operation of ITS and traffic signals, the group will focus on TSMO strategies, connected and autonomous vehicles, and emerging technologies to create better mobility experiences for everyone.
Rich Schmidt is a Civil Engineer with more than 34 years of traffic engineering experience, primarily designing and optimizing traffic signal and lighting systems along with extensive technical sales experience related to traffic signal detection, Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS), signal controllers, adaptive signal control and analytics. Rich has a long history of managing the design and construction phases of signal, lighting, and ITS projects. He also has expertise with leading traffic engineering software such as Synchro, which includes teaching advanced signal timing theory to the Illinois Department of Transportation. Rich also has extensive experience in ITS/traffic signal sales, as well as channel management. His project experience ranges from signal and freeway Advance Traffic Management Systems, SCOOT adaptive timing, bus lane enforcement, signal controller upgrades, as well as a variety of Connected Vehicle projects. “I am excited to bring my traffic signal, lighting, and ITS lessons learned from across the country to Lochmueller Group and to continue to explore and test new technologies while managing a very talented staff of engineers,” Rich said.
