The days of crowded public meetings are dwindling; expecting people to show up at a certain time in a certain place is a reach. To accommodate people’s lifestyles, Lochmueller suggested the use of a “Meeting in a Box” for the Mid-States Corridor Study. Our team used local libraries, which had flexible hours to accommodate work schedules and welcomed people to bring children, to house materials presented at local meetings. The public could then review the materials and leave their comments on a provided form placed in a comment box.
While meeting presentations and comment forms are a staple of any good public outreach strategy, Lochmueller has a tool that is a little more high-tech. Our talented team is bringing projects to life with virtual reality. Innovative improvements like displaced left turns and roundabouts can be intimidating, and explaining through words and pictures only goes so far. Putting on a virtual reality headset and experiencing what it’s like to drive through an intersection without any risk builds driver confidence and improves project acceptance.
