Town of Oxford wins ACEC Award for CSO Long-Term Control Plan

We are happy to announce that Lochmueller was chosen as a State Finalist for the Oxford CSO Long-Term Control Plan project in the 2021 ACEC Engineering Excellence Awards competition!

Oxford chose Lochmueller Group to perform revisions on the town’s Long Term Control Plan. The goal of this project was three-fold.

  • Comply with the town’s Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) Long-Term Control Plan (LTCP).
  • Eliminate the existing two Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) located in town by partial sewer separation and a new interceptor sewer system to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
  • Eliminate the existing two Combined Sewer Overflows (CSOs) located in town by partial sewer separation and a new interceptor sewer system to the Wastewater Treatment Plant.
  • Treat the wastewater that would normally discharge from the two CSOs by using a Submerged Attached Growth Reactor (SAGR) system at the Wastewater Treatment Plant. Other updates included a new screening structure and a UV disinfection system. Improvements to both lagoons included piping connections and a modulating telescoping valve to regulate flow to the downstream treatment systems.

As a result of this project, and the completion of Oxford’s Combined Sewer Overflow Long-Term Control Plan, wastewater flows to the existing ditches, creeks, backyards, and other public areas are reduced to state-acceptable levels. Additionally, this project was completed 10 years ahead of the town’s required implementation schedule, thereby providing a much cleaner environment for a longer period of time.
