North WWTP Expansion

Location:
Jeffersonville, Indiana
Client:
City of Jeffersonville, Indiana
Service Line:
Water Resources

Lochmueller Group was selected to lead the engineering design services for two phases of the North Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) Expansion project for the City of Jeffersonville, Indiana. The project is located at the North Water Reclamation Facility (WRF) in Jeffersonville, which is in the southern portion of Clark County.

For Phase I, Lochmueller was responsible for the Preliminary Engineering Report (PER), assistance with securing the project funding package that included grants so that the rate payers had no rate increase, topographic and geotechnical survey, permitting, electrical, instrumentation and controls design, preparation of project plan documents and project manual, and construction administration and inspection services. During the Phase II expansion project, Lochmueller will also be responsible for the same services as Phase I.

One of two WWTPs that the city maintains, the North WRF receives flows from the portion of the City north of Interstate 265 (residential and commercial) and the northeastern portion of the service area called River Ridge, which is largely industrial and will continue to attract additional industries in the future. These projects are necessary to provide this needed treatment capacity.

Phase I of the expansion of the North WRF consists of the expansion of the existing headworks building, a new oxidation ditch with biological nutrient removal, new clarifiers, a new RAS/WAS system, UV disinfection improvements, sludge digestion system and processing improvements, chemical feed building for phosphorus removal, administration building improvements, conveyance piping and electrical, and instrumentation and controls. Phase II of the expansion will build out the rest of the facility.

The current capacity of the North WRF is able to treat an average daily flow of 3.0 million gallons per day (MGD). Expansion of the facility will increase average daily flow capacities to 6.0 MGD for Phase I and 9.0 MGD for Phase II.
