Lochmueller provided Phase II Engineering Services for the IL Rte. 158 Extension from IL Rte. 161 to IL Rte. 177 in St. Clair County, Illinois. The work included preparation of all plans, specifications, and estimates (PS&E documents) for the roadway and a new bridge over a tributary to Silver Creek. Additionally, Lochmueller was responsible for a structure report for the new bridge, traffic signal plans, drainage plans, storm water pollution prevention plan, maintenance of traffic plans, and all other necessary related work to complete Phase II design. The total length is 1.3 miles between IL Rte. 161 and IL Rte. 177.

The nearly 554’ new bridge structure consists of a super-elevated reinforced concrete deck supported by seven 39” deep web steel plate girders spaced at 7’ 10”.  The deck design was oversized to accommodate a horizontal curve across the width of the bridge. The deck provides a 51’ clear width between concrete parapets to accommodate two 12’ lanes and outside shoulders varying from 10’ to 17’ wide and 17” wide parapet safety barriers. The structure has integral abutments supported on steel H-piles with approach pavements and concrete pier caps supported on four 42” large diameter (open-ended and concrete filled) pipe piles to reduce potential scour.

The structure will be built on a new alignment as part of a new extension of IL Rte. 158.
