We recently celebrated the completion of the St. Vincent Greenway 187A project with an event and ribbon cutting ceremony, which included a parade held along the newly completed section! Great Rivers Greenway (GRG), the Mysun Charitable Foundation, and Wellston Mayor Nathanial Griffin participated in the ribbon cutting at Trojan Park, and the event ended with a free concert from a local band.

Lochmueller partnered with the Lamar Johnson Collaborative team on this project for GRG. We worked as the design engineer and prepared the construction documents to complete the final design of a 2.5-mile segment of the greenway from Etzel Avenue at Trojan Park to Robert L. Powell Place in the City of Wellston, Missouri.

The trail design consists of a 12-foot-wide shared-use path, including a culvert extension to accommodate the trail crossing at Engelholm Creek on Plymouth Avenue. The culvert extension included HEC-RAS modeling, a no-rise certification, and a 404 Permit from the USACE. Additional design elements along the corridor included relocated storm structures, a new permeable paver parking lot, a pocket park overlooking the creek, and a redesigned bus shelter area. Lochmueller also provided utility coordination, permitting, community engagement activities, and construction assurance services for the project.

The goal of the St. Vincent Greenway project is to connect seven miles of greenway from NorthPark and the University of Missouri‐St. Louis campus all the way to Forest Park. The overall plan is to have it connect with the future Maline Greenway to the north and ultimately join the Centennial, River Des Peres, and Chouteau Greenways in Forest Park.

As schedules, budgets, and personnel availability became dynamic during the pandemic and soon thereafter, Lochmueller was able to manage the uncertainty, or risk, that came along with those changes. By being proactive and continuously adhering to the QA/QC plan set forth, Lochmueller’s team had the agility and discipline to continuously adapt to the changes throughout the project.
